I was sent there with my two-month-old baby by Dr. Van Gils at the medical center in Etterbeek because he felt I shouldn't breastfeed on demand... Except he didn't tell me that was the reason, otherwise I obviously wouldn't have gone. What about the patient's right to information? This experience was disastrous for me and my baby. Judging, incompetent, they confused ADHD with psychosis without being qualified to do so because they weren't psychiatrists or neurologists, they filed a report to have my baby taken away, etc. All this to prevent breastfeeding, which they deemed too enmeshed. It's obscurantism with terrible consequences for our lives afterward. It's better that I NEVER go there. The medical centers have partnership agreements with these "non-profit organizations." The clinic bills the health insurance company 400 euros per appointment. So that explains it.

I was referred to them by my doctor because I was suffering from postpartum depression. The first two sessions seemed to help; I felt listened to. Then things went downhill. They began to focus exclusively on my daughter's development, who was two months old at the time. They scrutinized her from every angle, analyzing her every move and our reactions, as parents. From then on, I never truly felt listened to again, but rather observed, judged, and analyzed. From one appointment to the next, I felt that no one really knew what the goal was. They spent the current sessions scheduling the next ones, without really knowing what kind of help to offer us. The only person who provided us with concrete and invaluable support was Ms. Tremosa, the physiotherapist, whom we thank from the bottom of our hearts. She cared for our little girl gently, subtly, and effectively. Aside from the sessions with her, we went around in circles in the fog at La Lice for six months, meeting one after another with a child psychiatrist as cold as a prison wall, as well as a psychologist and a nurse who never really knew how to help us. I won't even mention the blatant lack of internal communication. So I'll sum up my opinion in one sentence: steer clear, don't waste your time at La Lice.

No neurological approach whatsoever. A psychoanalytic approach that can obviously prove dangerous due to their erroneous diagnoses (they're still stuck in the outdated mindset, decades past, of considering autism and ADHD as psychiatric illnesses caused by life experiences, when in fact they are recognized neurological disabilities of genetic origin). Even worse, they are prone to abusive and false "confidential" reports. Be warned, no professional secrecy or ethics are respected: everything you say will be used against you, distorted, and spread in their reports. Luckily, qualified professionals make correct diagnoses elsewhere; otherwise, you'd waste three whole years at the Lice (the minimum duration of their "follow-up," during office hours... I'll let you guess who their target audience is, knowing that the follow-up is very generously covered by health insurance). When you request your file, they don't give it to you.

I was very young and needed help with my first child. And I found in them a listening ear and advice that was invaluable to me; I can't thank you enough! 😇😉
