Building with history! In 1908, a new town hall in the Neo-Renaissance style was erected, based on a design by Michel De Braey. The public tender took place on May 12, 1908. The works were nearly completed in 1909. Due to the contractor's bankruptcy, some items, such as marble and joinery, had not yet been executed. After the Second World War, restoration work was carried out in 1946. The repair of war damage to the stained-glass windows was performed in 1959–1964. From 1998 to 2000, the town hall underwent a complete refurbishment and was expanded with an inner courtyard! The Wijnegem town hall has a basement and two floors under a slate gable roof whose ridge runs parallel to the street. The front facade is a five-bay brick facade on a block base, enlivened with hardstone for cornices and watercourses. The facade features several decorative anchors. The dormer is incorporated into a small neck gable with wing pieces and a curved pseudo-pediment. The first bay, containing the entrance, is designed as a tower with a tented slate roof. On the bel-étage, the entrance bay is delineated by pilasters with diamond-shaped capitals. In front of the entrance is a landing and a straight staircase with a balustrade between pedestals, including one featuring a shield-bearing lion. The facade is further punctuated by rectangular windows with mullions beneath curved or straight drip moldings. The rectangular double door has a stone surround beneath a triangular pediment and is crowned by a balcony supported by volutes. The tall balcony window is also crowned by a triangular pediment. On the top floor of the tower, there is a round clock in a rectangular stone surround, crowned above the cornice by a small neck gable beneath a curved pediment. The side facades are shoulder gables with crowning chimneys. The modern extension is refreshing. A sculpture by Jef Decock adorns the whole!

  • Very professional and super friendly. Many other municipalities could learn a thing or two from them regarding service delivery!
