I know hundreds of cities around the world but I must say that Turnhout impressed me. Unfortunately not for good reasons, I was on a project in the Turnhout area and stayed in an apartment almost in the center of the city, one day I arrived at the house later (around 23:00) and what is my surprise that in the 5 minutes of walking between the parking lot and the house there was not a single street lighting. Turnhout undoubtedly achieved the perfect formula for nocturnal violence, narrow streets, no people and zero lighting. Thefts, assaults, aggressions, violations, etc.... just choose because the environment created looks like it came out of a horror movie.

They really shouldn't let Annick Jansen from the Foreign Nationals service deal with people anymore.. I suggest she handle municipal waste collection days or something similar.. I have lived in Belgium for almost my entire life but am still Dutch on paper. I found it worrying how I was treated by her! Very disrespectful.

City walk and map museum. The latter is definitely worth a visit.

Construction took place between 1959 and 1961. However, the plans date back to 1948. Many residents of Turnhout are unhappy about it because valuable buildings were demolished and the building disrupts the view of the market square.
