I want to sincerely thank the Mayor for studying the Ukrainian language. It means a lot to us and makes us very happy. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, on behalf of all the people of Ukraine. You are a true and dear friend to us.

I just saw in the news that the mayor of that town learned Ukrainian to be able to communicate and help Ukrainians in Belgium. And I’m just so impressed! What a man! I will definitely visit that town one day!

We went to register myself, as an EU citizen. The staff were very polite and helpful, even noting I had made an appointment later in the week for my non-EU wife and asking if I wanted to register her at the same time & cancel the other appointment. Documents asked for were less than we expected, everything was processed swiftly and we both left with our Annex 19. We did our best to speak in Dutch and that worked well. Those complaining here about English come across as a little narcissistic to me.

Appointments only now, enjoy the 3 week wait to get that 20 second document filled in. Make sure you bring everything you need, make sure you dont speak english and dont bring them too much work. They put so much effort into not doing their job, that would just be rude.

I called to ask for information about garbage disposal and domiciliation since I am a new resident and they told me it is illegal for them to talk in english (only allowed to speak french\dutch). This of course they told me in fluent English. Joke
