With the New Administrative Centre (NAC), Houthalen-Helchteren has added a landmark to its heritage. However, this brand-new municipal service centre, designed by THV Mandala, is not only unique in terms of its appearance. The location, the concept, and the manner in which it was executed are also remarkable. In just three years, a sustainable building (that grass on the roof is useless, and why were solar panels installed years later? Not so sustainable after all?) with distinctive architecture rose on a site between the centre of Houthalen and the former mining site. All this, of course, at the expense of the buildings of Houthalen Mine and the workshops of the T.I.K.B.

Very beautiful building with a very spacious entrance hall; however, it is very unfortunate and a major drawback that the Daubechies Tower is not accessible to people with reduced mobility or those with mobility issues. This could be resolved by installing a lift from the 2nd floor (e.g., a glass cage for 3 people). Thank you for passing this on to the Municipal Administration.
