I am French and I visited your municipality for the first time on August 27, 2026. My paternal grandmother and her parents (the Bossens-Nickmans couple) were born in Rummen/Rumigny, where the family owned a farm until 1912. I had two unfortunate experiences while passing through your municipality: - I noticed that the graves in the Rummen/Rumigny cemetery (which is no longer in use since the merger of the municipalities) were largely abandoned (I was unable to identify any old ancestral graves from the 19th century); - Before arriving in Rummen, I had to make an emergency stop at the Geetbets exit; I thought I had parked properly on the sidewalk (for a minute), when in fact I was unknowingly in a bike lane (I wouldn't have stopped there if I had been aware of it). A few seconds after I stopped, when I was about 20 meters from my vehicle, I heard and saw a police car pulled up next to mine. Its siren and flashing lights triggered a very loud siren. Two police officers walked quickly towards my car, ordering my young son to open the door. My son was frightened, not understanding what was happening. A few seconds later, I was near the officers, asking them why they were there and explaining the situation. The conversation was difficult, and I was afraid of being arrested (this has never happened to me anywhere, even though I am 66 years old and have traveled to various countries around the world, some of them less than democratic or even in the midst of civil war). It will be understood that I am using this Google search to contact the Geetbets Town Hall about these two issues that saddened me during my first visit to this municipality, the territory of a quarter of my ancestral roots.

Geetbets needs money. For the first time in years, I visited the municipality and drove through it at the incredible speed of 52 km/h. Result: 4 fines of €50

The international gathering was organized by our biker friends from Belgium. We set off from Bad Lauterberg to Belgium. The journey was organized and careful, and we stayed dry until Dortmund. There, we were caught in the rain, and to make matters worse, the GPS was incorrectly set, forcing us to navigate past the stadiums and through the city in the middle of rush hour traffic. The rain continued all the way to the Dutch border. We arrived at the festival grounds, the sky cleared, we settled into our 80-person tents, and then enjoyed the hospitality of our Belgian biker friends. The usual greetings, beers, and loads of fries. Belgium, we love you for this! Music, dancing, biker games, chatting, and even some serious conversations. All in all, a successful biker event.

Impossible to reach, no one answers if you just want to ask something on the phone. It is scandalous; we pay municipal taxes for this.
