Excellent service and administrative support for organizing our wedding. Our mayor made a strong impression during our wedding ceremony with my wife thanks to his humor, which created a wonderful atmosphere. My dear sister even said, while we were seated at the wedding reception at Damison, that we should save it for our funeral. Barely married, already buried by the family! 😇

I had a wonderful wedding there, and after I left Belgium, the staff were helpful, very pleasant, and genuinely friendly. They provided information beyond what I asked for, all without an appointment and with a smile. They deserved 5 stars without hesitation. Fourteen years later, I was happy to see the same person at reception until her young colleague spoke up. Gone was the kindness, the smiles, the helpfulness. I was unpleasantly surprised to find that the staff had become incredibly snobbish and completely unprofessional. This person refused me a service that she would have known was her legal right if she had done even the slightest bit of research, but she maintained, as she put it, "I don't take orders from a Belgian embassy." She preferred to stay within the bounds of her expertise, namely a national identity card and passport, paid for at a premium with a Belgian bank card, sent to an address in Belgium, and requested urgently because I had to return to collect them before leaving Belgium—something impossible for a Canadian permanent resident. It's true that, as the very helpful and professional staff at the Belgian embassy in Canada had told me, I had come to have my biometrics taken free of charge, as stipulated by law for expatriates. However, she preferred to use the time allotted for this service to chat and laugh with the next person because I didn't know that nothing is now done without an appointment, even though the government website states otherwise. On the other hand, I wasted over five hours on public transport getting there for nothing.

The town hall was lovely, and the wedding was very pleasantly officiated by the mayor and his deputy, who cheerfully read the official documents aloud without us even noticing. Thank you to them for this wonderful moment.
