I am delighted with the welcome I received this morning by telephone. The people were very pleasant and gave me all the information I needed. Thank you and congratulations on your kindness.

Exceptional service and welcome in the population wing. A pleasure to come to the town hall to do your paperwork!

The belfry of Binche is part of the town hall, which dates back to the 14th century. It is also the town hall tower. It served as a meeting hall for city officials, as well as a market hall and meat market. Other halls (grain, textiles, etc.) used to stand next to the building, but these have disappeared over time. Burned down by French troops in 1554, it was quickly restored in the Renaissance style by architect Du Broeucq. Under the influence of architect J.B. Dewelz, neoclassical decoration was added in the 18th century. After a major renovation in 1901, the town hall regained its Renaissance appearance. A spherical dome covers the belfry, which houses a carillon with various 16th-century bells. The coats of arms of Charles V and his sister Maria of Hungary adorn the building. The town hall with its belfry is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The belfry is not accessible inside.

The welcome was frankly unpleasant. The woman clearly lacked the smile that seems to be part of her vocabulary. When you have a job that involves interacting with people, a minimum of courtesy would be expected.
